Busy Busy CMJ!
It has seriously been a crazy week here. CMJ EVERYDAY
Lemme be honest, usually CMJ(college music journal, a indie music festival every year in nyc) is kind of lame. Not that great of bands, okay showcases and bad free beer.
This year has been the exact opposite and the best night is still to come. Quite a few break out acts that you should check out though.
First off The XX- out of London England, really mellow bedroom techno rock. One of the great things about the XX is they just have their own sound. Everyone who has tried to describe their music has always been “its like um bla bla bla..followed by but its really good!” check out their excellent self titled debut.
Another buzz band that’s been on everyones lips has been the band Surfer Blood
They recently signed to Kanine Records and have been playing phenomenal shows and blowing everyone away with their “90′s weezer blue album” pop tunes. Listening to Surfer Blood has reminded me how music just doesn’t need to be so serious. Its just fun.
Tonight I’m off to the Matador/True Panther Sounds Showcase. CHECK IT!
