Early Review

Album Cover

of the new Spoon record “Transference” out Jan 19th

If you’re a long time Spoon fan you will love it

If you’ve never heard of Spoon you’ll love it

The record starts out kind of slow and weird and slowly picks up until it sounds like the angels of heaven are pounding on your door. Yeah you can quote me on that.

This quote about Spoon is a bit cooler

Spoon‘s critical acclaim is almost comically universal. In December the online review aggregator Metacritic named Spoon the best artist of the decade, above acts like Radiohead and the White Stripes. In March the group will headline Radio City Music Hall. Though the band is now spread out around the country — only Mr. Eno is in Austin; Mr. Daniel moved to Portland, Ore. in 2005; Mr. Harvey is in Dallas; and Mr. Pope is “intentionally homeless,” he said — it has a palpable cohesion thanks to Mr. Daniel’s rigorous songwriting and pared-down aesthetic. They wear button-down shirts onstage and have no notable haircuts.” [NY Times]

This is one of those records that is not meant to be heard on your crappy white headphones its meant to be heard on a nice stereo. I can’t wait till my LP comes in the mail.

Until then…dangit!

I like the album cover. It’s kind of Vampire Weekend-esque, no? Like Wes Anderson-esque, right? I think we just made an association chart.
