The Classic Sweatshirt

Steve McQueen

Few things in a man’s wardrobe are as simple and understated as the crewneck sweatshirt.

The cotton crewneck is a piece that can be paired with any outfit.

Worn, washed, beaten up and destroyed. The more character the better. Wear it over an oxford and a tie, pair it with a suit. The crewneck will tone down the dressiness of any outfit.

I know it feels like I’ve been on a casual wear kick lately but you just can’t go wrong with this one.

Even GQ is recommending it now (did I just lose cool points?) though I don’t recommend the fedora with it. It just looks like you’re trying to hard. Sprezzatura rarely equals fedora.

Here are some of my picks

Cotton Crewneck from Polo $49.99

Cotton Crewneck from Polo $49.99

Marled Crewneck from GAP $34.50

Last, my personal favorite from Monocle made in Japan on a traditional 1920′s machine.

Check out the details under the cuff…so slick.

Mr. Mort has a point, but I’ll be damned if that Monocle joint ain’t krispy kreme.

Yeah, I haven’t found anything that even comes close to my Buzz Rickson crewneck. So soft and warm…
