Band of Outsiders F/W 2010
Walking into Band of Outsiders was interesting.
Let me start off by saying they don’t always rank so high with me – so the bar was pretty low. (See previous post)
The usual crowd was there, Schwartzman, GQ gang etc.
The music was Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” so it had this sort of dreamy vibe.
People were exchanging cards and trying to hustle there own clothing line, band, blog.
Most people weren’t paying attention to the clothes because to be honest with you it wasn’t really anything anyone hadn’t seen before. I do not envy the position Scott Sternberg is in though Band of Outsiders blew up with their skinny shirts and skinny ties, but nothing has really changed all that much as a whole.
There are SOME things I liked, he got himself some nice saddle kicks.
A slick parka
As far as stuff that I saw that I wasn’t into, was well everything else.
More boat shoes (made in China), little blazers, and skinny shirts cut with an arm hole so high you sweat like a prom date.
I asked one of the models what he thought of the collection and he responded with this…
OUCH
BUT!
to put an end to my hate, there were some great looks (EXCLUDING THE DUCK BRIMED SKI HAT). I just want to see Scott evolve. Band of Outsiders is clever, witty, and Scott knows how to hit his market. He’s a smart smart man. I just want more of what got me excited the first time.
Boy by Band of Outsiders (his women’s line) was fantastic though, the girls looked great. Probably some of the coolest women’s wear I’ve seen in a long time. I will give Scott HUGE cred for that, the looks were great and it all came off as timeless cool.
So if a had to grade it (which is weird but someone asked)
BOY: by Band of Outsiders A+
Band of Outsiders C+ (for the slick parka and nice saddle shoes)
Please note this is just my opinion, if you don’t like it that’s fine. I am only one person expressing how I felt about the show. Feel free to comment below.
Check the rest the looks (including some BOY shots) below

Yeah. BoO is one of those labels I’ve always liked-as in their lookbooks always have that coolest nerd in the school vibe. But I doubt it will ever look that cool on me-the size is weird to me.
Boy. by BoO is effing sick though. Absolutely kills it for women. I wish all girls dressed like BoO and Steven Alan girls.
100% agree. Boy is fantastic
While we were viewing the collection, I definitely came to the conclusion that the womens collection was stronger. I couldn’t help but to think that the male models on the theatrical props was mainly done to draw ‘a little’ attention away from how subpar the mens collection was?
Great post!
Also, interesting hypothesis, James…
Is that Pee-Wee Herman’s son in the first photo?
