Sartoria Sciamat
All men need a great handmade suit. Many argue who makes the best suits, but most forget how many different kinds of suits are out there. People argue over fully canvassed vs half, peak lapels vs notched, 2.5″ cuff vs no cuff, and all the various shoulders. Its all preference and how it looks on you in my opinion. People have their favorites and that’s fine by me. One of my personal favorites is the Italian company Sartoria Sciamat.
Sartoria Sciamat was started in 2002 by Valentino Ricci (which I’m sure many of you have seen on the Sartorialist).
Most people were surprised when they heard this as Valentino had no former apprenticeship with a master tailor and learned how to cut entirely on his own.
The suits are beautiful, impeccably made and sporting a natural roped shoulder. Each jacket takes over 72 hours to make and are made in Italy (where Sciamat is based).
Most orders Sciamat does are made to measure or bespoke, meaning you pick out…everything.
One day (soon?) I plan on ordering a suit from Sciamat. Until then I’ll keep saving as like any handmade Italian manufacturing its not cheap.

I hate that roped shoulder!
really? I’m rather fond of it. The roped shoulder is actually a mild exaggeration of the British shoulder (which is roped). Leave it the wonderful Italians to twist it and in my opinion perfect it.
I don’t mind a roped shoulder per se, it’s the gathering that I find truly distasteful, you know.
I mean they are killer suits otherwise.
Gorgeous!
Those shoulders are much maligned, but I have to say, I do really like them. These guys make awesome looking suits.
In this day and age, when you think there is not much new in men’s tailored clothing , here come the Ricci brothers who are inspiring both product and stye. The natural roped shoulder is just a standout alternative to what is the norm…bravo brothers Ricci
