Yes You Can!
It’s been a while with this sockless thing huh? I mean, I know a lot of folks are really trying to dive into it but I think it’s becoming what it used to stand against.
Comfort!
The whole point of wearing shoes without socks is it’s more comfortable. So why am I reading articles and hearing about guys complaining about their cut up feet and ankles?
So you look comfortable but are actually uncomfortable? Hear me out folks.
The other day I read a column by an editor who was advising folks on what to buy so they could wear their leather soled shoes without socks. Ankle band-aids, foot powder etc.
Really?! What about just wearing socks so your ankles and feet don’t get cut up (or smell like crap). I know its cool and all but, hearing about folks cutting up their ankles wearing leather soled shoes is silly.
Now if it really is more comfortable (I’m talking leather soled shoes) go for it but, Paul Newman busted out his tube socks, and so did this young ivy league gentleman.
Don’t be afraid to set the trend. Isn’t that how this whole thing got started anyway?

hey, thought this may help some people:

whilst i don’t mind following in the footsteps of Brando, tan lines are not so great in summer on the beach, or city street for that matter. these are a good solution.
I’ve found that if your planning to go primarily sock-less with a pair of shoes you must really consider the sizing. I feel that any shoe you find well fit and comfortable with socks will likely be looser without and may be slightly uncomfortable. I find this to be true with loafers and moc’s especially. I guess an alternative would be investing in a quality insole preferably on the thicker side if you want to keep feet from banging around. This is my experience of course. Thanks for addressing this.
I’m sorry but short of men wearing capris…the socks with shorts look is terrible! Embrace the stench gentlemen!
I guess I’m just against wearing leather shoes with shorts. To me, shorts are casual and so I wear canvas sneakers with them, sometimes with socks and sometimes without. If I have to wear leather shoes, then I wear pants as well. I love Newman, but he and Take Ivy dude look ridiculous.
I’m all for comfort, but, I’d never pair loafers with tube socks. It’s not a good look.
newman just turned over in his grave. each his own.
I’m aware I’m gonna sound like a Falke salesman here, but their invisible socks are great and I’d wear them before I started embracing any stench (Also, surely stinky feet will ruin any potential amourous moments? You don’t wanna be remembered as the guy with the stinky feet).
But yeah, there’s nothing wrong with tube socks. I’m not too crazy on them being as high as shown in the pictures above, but they can work in the right situation (and that situation is any one where you don’t want blisters).
Not in a million years….sorry but this look is sooo wrong!
Beside Paul Newman wore them to do the dishes (??) I wouldn’t, not even for that.
I would agree with Jason, wear invisible socks…or if you cannot by any mean just wear canvas shoes. But walking on campus with white socks and loafers is so pretantious even for an Ivy League guy…
P.S. I Love your blog
Yes, I like the look, sometimes just to make my feet and loafers rest, I wear proudly a pair of nice black ankle socks. I think black socks always look very cool, but I’m also comfortable without. White socks are perceived as borderline riduculous with shorts, instead, I saw many colored socks that look very stylish.
