Recommended Listening: Destroyer – Kaputt

I havn’t always been a Destroyer fan but Dan Bejar’s new album is absolutely incredible. It won’t sound that unfamiliar to you if you’re a fan of the New Pornagraphers as he’s been singing with Carl Newman for years.

Filled with dreamy synth pads, misplaced saxophones, and the hush whisper of Mr. Bejar’s voice I just can’t stop listening to it.

Most Destroyer records take a bit of time to get used to, but this is as welcoming as it is different. The record has hybrid mix of drum pads that evolve into real recorded drums then back to pads. Topped with reverby guitars and yes again, that dang saxophone!

I don’t claim to understand everything Bejar’s is doing, I’m …

    Girls – Broken Dreams Club

    Girls – Broken Dreams Club

One of my favorite bands lately has been San Francisco’s “Girls” recently announced their new EP Broken Dreams Club.

This past summer Lust for Life was the song that was pushing everyone to the beach and now their new single makes me want to stroll through central park..or anywhere for that matter.

Check it out and download it here.…

No Age – Everything In Between

One of my favorite bands is releasing their 3rd LP soon.

I’ve always been a big fan of No Age, their garage, lo-fi, politically (and sometimes technically) incorrect music.

It’s always a fresh reminder that music isn’t about perfection, it can sometimes just be about a simple idea and brash melody.

Their newest LP “Everything In Between” comes out on Sub Pop 09/28

Here is a track off of it called Glitter

      Side Note

It makes me happy to see bands make their LP artwork this cool looking.

        Listen To This: Neighbors

One of my favorite bands right now is Neighbors. Like most good music, its coming from Brooklyn. Thank God this EP is finally out because if I hear any more Drake I’m going to flip.…

Classics: De La Soul’s Stakes Is High

One of my favorite albums of all time. Stakes Is High, by De La Soul was a ground breaking album and still becomes a record I put on over and over again. It still sounds fresh

The first record not produced by Prince Paul (he did the first 3) but largely produced by the band themselves. They knew their sound well and made (in my opinion) their best record to date. True, some might argue this, but ehh…

            Listen To This: Four Tet

Recently I picked up the latest release of Four Tet “There Is Love In You” and I can’t stop listening to it. From start to finish its a great record. I put this on and my work suddenly flies by (not totally true but you get what I mean).

I’ve been a fan of Four Tet for a while and got into him (Kieran Hebden) when he first did the remixes for Kings of Convenience.

Although the record is meant to be played over a loud stereo, I think listening to it in your car makes you think you’re in a horrible movie about fast cars. That may just be me, though as I’m paranoid of listening to instrumental …

Classics: Cat Steven’s Teaser & The Firecat

Cat Steven’s has always been one of my favorite artists. Most of you all have heard his songs in a Wes Anderson movie or something trying to be hip, but to me Teaser & The Firecat surpasses all the silly trends. It’s a solid and beautiful recording.

This is one of the few records my parents had that was nearly worn down to nothing. They listened to it so much the friggin record wore out! (Luckily eBay came to the rescue!)

If you don’t have this record yet listen to “The Wind” and “Rubylove” and you’ll hear why.
