Listen To This: Neighbors

Listen To This: Neighbors

One of my favorite bands right now is Neighbors. Like most good music, its coming from Brooklyn. Thank God this EP is finally out because if I hear any more Drake I’m going to flip.

Classics: De La Soul’s Stakes Is High

Classics: De La Soul’s Stakes Is High

One of my favorite albums of all time. Stakes Is High, by De La Soul was a ground breaking album and still becomes a record I put on over and over again. It still sounds fresh

The first record not produced by Prince Paul (he did the first 3) but largely produced by the band themselves. They knew their sound well and made (in my opinion) their best record to date. True, some might argue this, but ehh…

Check out “Supa Emcees” and “Long Island Degrees”

Makes me wish I still had a car

Listen To This: Four Tet

Listen To This: Four Tet

Recently I picked up the latest release of Four Tet “There Is Love In You” and I can’t stop listening to it. From start to finish its a great record. I put this on and my work suddenly flies by (not totally true but you get what I mean).

I’ve been a fan of Four Tet for a while and got into him (Kieran Hebden) when he first did the remixes for Kings of Convenience.

Although the record is meant to be played over a loud stereo, I think listening to it in your car makes you think you’re in a horrible movie about fast cars. That may just be me, though as I’m paranoid…

Classics: Cat Steven’s Teaser & The Firecat

Cat Steven’s has always been one of my favorite artists. Most of you all have heard his songs in a Wes Anderson movie or something trying to be hip, but to me Teaser & The Firecat surpasses all the silly trends. It’s a solid and beautiful recording.

This is one of the few records my parents had that was nearly worn down to nothing. They listened to it so much the friggin record wore out! (Luckily eBay came to the rescue!)

If you don’t have this record yet listen to “The Wind” and “Rubylove” and you’ll hear why.

Classics: Bob Dylan’s New Morning

Mr Dylan’s 11th studio album was released in 1970, and personally, its my favorite of his entire catalog.

It includes “Day of The Locusts” which is about Bob Dylan’s frustration when he was presented with an honorary doctorate degree from Princeton University. Bob originally didn’t want to go; when he was asked to wear a cap and gown, he refused, exclaiming, “I didn’t ask for this in the first place!”

The lyrics refer to a cicada infestation that was present when he was at Princeton. (Yes he eventually put it on and received his degree)

This record to me represents Dylan at his finest. He was…
