“Travelers for Travelers” is their tag. Not only is their product functional, understated, and sleek. Their site is probably one of the nicest sites I’ve been to in a long time. (http://www.travelteq.com/)

Take Ivy
February 17th, 2010 · 2 Comments
I suppose I assumed most of the blogosphere has had their hands on a digital version of “Take Ivy” for a while now.
If you havn’t heard of it, it was a book originally published in 1965. T. Hayashida (a photgrapher from Japan) visited the Ivy League universities and documented the fashion style of the era. This book has influenced countless designers and look books. Sadly its pretty hard to find a hard copy of it and if you can its around 2k. There is a digital version though.
If you don’t have it yet, I posted it in one of my tweets.
Here are some of my favorite looks from the Japanese book “Take Ivy” by T. Hayashida (click on the pics for a bigger version)

A Look : It’s Snowing
February 16th, 2010 · 3 Comments
Snow is falling pretty hard in NYC today. I hope everyone is staying warm wherever they are. Wear an outfit like this and you’ll be warm and looking slick.
The RRL parka is one of my favorites, the fit is spot on and the red is nice and faded, looks like you’ve owned it for ages. Paired with a Norwegian sweater (yes made in Norway) over an oxford you might even be too warm. Thrown together with a british wool bobcap, deerskin gloves and bean boots.
Now go help your neighbor shovel snow. You’re a nice looking gentleman.

Michael Bastian F/W 2010
February 16th, 2010 · 1 Comment
Sunday night L.A.S. and I headed over to Exit Art to see the Michael Bastian show.
Few quick notes on the show before I dive in.
1. Really well done, a nice mix of british punk, american style and italian tailoring (cuccinelli).
2. John Malkovich was there = double awesome (pic from my twitter account here)

Get Your Spring Parka
February 9th, 2010 · 5 Comments
Huddled by your radiator? Bummer.
Well if you’re like me, you don’t hang around your radiator because when you go near it shakes and shrieks like a Jonas Brothers fan.
So I just think about spring and how I’m going to get a fake tan and flare my hair out.
All seriousness aside here.
I’m just thinking about these!

A man who needs no introduction.
Ranked #1 on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest screen actors.
This guy also conned the greatest one liner in history.
“Here’s looking at you kid” (Yes he came up with that himself when he was teaching Ingrid Bergman to play poker)
Check out Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon and The Petrified Forest

Gil Scott-Heron
February 7th, 2010 · 2 Comments
Now and again you come across a record that isn’t only great but, it does more for you than other records you’ve heard in ages.
“I’m New Here” by Gil Scott-Heron has had me going back and replaying these songs over and over.
It’s a deep record.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Gil Scott Heron many consider him a pioneer of African American hip hop and soul music. He started out in the late 60’s and early 70’s with spoken word and has since changed the way we study poetry and spoken word music.
Produced by XL owner Richard Russell “I’m New Here” was recorded over the past year in New York. Enough about how much I like this though. Listen to the whole record below, its out Feb 9th on XL

A Look : Casual Friday
February 5th, 2010 · 2 Comments
Now I know the haters are gonna flip when I throw in sweat pants but hey I don’t really care. Style is about doing something your own and looking comfortable.
I wish I could take credit for this look but I saw someone wearing something along these lines today and had to post about it (dude looked legit).
Now a tattersall shirt with a jean jacket I can get into. Then a Engineered Garments vest on top, very nice.
Throwing the sweatpants into the mix is my opinion of a winter “Go To Hell” look.
Also, can’t go wrong with Pro Keds right?
Down Vest by Engineered Garments
Jean Jacket by Levis
Tattersall Shirt by Brooks Brothers Black Fleece
Sweat Pants by Champion

Monitaly Triple Needle Shirt
February 3rd, 2010 · 4 Comments
As the denim and chambray train continues to roll on. Its hard to find a company that isn’t involved in the movement one way or another.
I enjoy set ups like this as it forces companies to do something better and different to stand out further. Thank goodness or else everyone would wear J.Crew chambray.
Leave it to Monitaly to make a shirt that is made on the same machines that made uniforms for the rail union. Triple needle stitched to outlast all the work you’re going to do texting on your phone. Finishing it with little twist from Yuki.
Pick it up at Garbstore

How To Keep Me On Antidepressants…
February 2nd, 2010 · 5 Comments
publish articles about urban woodsman…
Silly NY Mag…
In all honesty its nothing against the guys in the picture. I just think when magazines talk about rugged style or americana etc. They just make it seem too trendy and lame. They dont re-enforce the classiness of it or the simplicity. Also I picture the writers like Fran Drescher. Is that bad?
Everyone that reads this knows I like to have fun. So if anyone is actually offended…
Know that you could beat me up and have another sip of your coffee.

Oxford Shirt of The Future!
January 29th, 2010 · 2 Comments
Honestly I’ve never really been in the “Fun” oxford but this shirt by Mark McNairy really reminds me why he is my favorite designer. Its not 4 different colors of red and yellow. Its blue mixed with a bengal stripe. A favorite I never knew I had.
I know lately this blog feels like a Mark McNairy shrine but this should serve as a wake up call to other designers. You don’t need to re-design the wheel. Just make well made classic pieces with twist.
Now for my new task – track down this shirt!
